La thyroxine est une hormone thyroïdienne qui est formée par la condensation de deux molécules of theacide aminé tyrosine. Aussi appelée hormone T4 pour tétra-iodothyronine, la molécule de thyroxine comporte quatre atomes d’iode et présente une structure proche de celle d’une autre hormone thyroïdienne : la tri-iodothyronine ou T3, qui compte trois atomes d’iode.
