Telmisartan is an antihypertensive agent, an angiotensin II (AT1 type) receptor antagonist. It has a very high affinity for this receptor subtype. Telmisartan displaces angiotensin II from its association with AT1 receptors. Affinity for other AT receptor subtypes has not been found. The functional importance of other receptor subtypes and the effect of high levels of angiotensin II on them (as a result of the appointment of telmisartan) are not known.

Description
For adults, the daily dose is 20-40 mg (1 time/day). In some patients, the hypotensive effect can be obtained with a dose of 20 mg/day. If necessary, the dose can be increased up to 80 mg/day.
In patients with impaired renal function, as well as in elderly patients, there is no need to adjust the dose.
For patients with impaired liver function, the recommended daily dose is 40 mg.
Doses for athletes are the same – using a single daily dose of 20-40 mg to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and/or stroke in bodybuilders using steroids and suffering of prehypertension. It may also lead to improvements in HDL cholesterol levels, insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial activity, endothelial function, and cognitive function.
