Thyroxine is a hormone thyroid which is formed by the condensation of two molecules of theamino acid tyrosine. Also called the T4 hormone for tetra-iodothyronine, the thyroxine molecule has four atoms ofiodine and has a structure close to that of another thyroid hormone: triiodothyronine or T3, which has three iodine atoms. Thyroxine is produced by the follicles thyroid. Thyroid hormones act on a large number of organs. They tend to increase the metabolism basic and consumption ofoxygen, which makes it possible to produce heat. Thyroid hormones are involved in growth.
