Description
The typical method of using isotretinoin is to take a dose of 0.5 to 1 mg/kg of body weight per day, so the maximum daily dose is 100 mg for a 2201b person. Exceptional cases may require a higher dosage reaching 2mg/kg/day. The daily dose itself is divided into two equal doses, which must be administered at two different times of the day.
Isotretinoin should also be taken with meals, not on an empty stomach, because food significantly promotes the absorption of this drug (high-fat meals have the greatest effect on bioavailability). The typical treatment cycle, lasting 15 to 20 weeks, is usually enough to clear up or at least control the patient's condition. However, if necessary, the doctor can start a second cycle of treatment. This must follow an interruption of at least two months from the first treatment.
